Before You Submit

A cycling accident can leave you dealing with injuries, insurance companies, and uncertainty about what to do next.
Taking the right steps early can help protect both your health and your legal rights. If you’ve been injured in a bicycle accident, here’s what to do first.

1. Get Medical Attention

Your health comes first, so seek medical care as soon as possible, even if your injuries seem minor.

2. Report the Crash

Report the collision to the appropriate authorities when required and keep a copy of any reports you receive.

3. Save Photos and Videos

Take photos or videos of the scene, your injuries, your bicycle, and any vehicles or bike crash evidence involved before anything is moved.

4. Preserve Your Equipment

Keep your bicycle, helmet, lights, clothing, and other damaged gear, as they may be important evidence.

5. Keep Important Documents

Save any insurance information, police reports, medical records, receipts, and other documents related to the crash.

6. Save Ride and Camera Data

If available, preserve data from your Garmin, Strava, helmet camera, dashcam, or phone before it is deleted or overwritten.
