BIKE VS. MOTOR VEHICLE:
Accident Benefits for Barrie Cyclists
If you’ve been struck by a motor vehicle while cycling in Barrie, you may be entitled to receive no-fault Accident Benefits, even if you do not have your own automobile insurance. These benefits exist alongside your right to bring a claim against the at-fault driver. Many cyclists are not aware that this coverage applies to them.
Accident Benefits can include compensation for medical and rehabilitation expenses, income replacement, and other forms of support depending on your injuries and recovery needs.
To begin the process, the responsible insurer must be identified. That may be your own provider or a spouse’s or parent’s. If no personal coverage is available, the insurance company of the motorist involved will be responsible for the benefits.
In situations where neither party has insurance, such as hit-and-run cases, cyclists can apply to Ontario’s Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Fund (MVACF) for access to these benefits.
